|John William Burgess in his Confederate uniform. He served under General Sterling Price and was present at the Siege of Lexington, Missouri, where he had previously attended college.
John Burgess and Sue Innes were married Sept. 3, 1868 in the home of John Price Innes, her father, in Lexington Kentucky, by the Elder John A. Gano. In 1886 they moved to Texas where the last of their children, my grandmother, Mary Estill Burgess, was born April 7,1887 on the ranch north of Fort Worth, Texas.
There is a letter describing the prospective move to Texas with its delightful climate, ideal for the cattle business.
